Crazy…

Out of necessity, I have been quiet on here for a bit.  My last surgery was one that involved no anesthetic – just a mild sedative to send me into a “twilight sleep.”

Yeah.  I’ve been in that twilight sleep for a week!  I have the haziest of memory of the days immediately following surgery, and even now I find myself not quite tracking what is going on at times.  Last night, I actually thought I was hallucinating – then I woke up and realized it was just called sleeping and dreaming.  SO WEIRD!

So, I’ve been reading a little today about the medication that I was given, it’s called Versed.  The funniest thing for me is that it’s a “benzo” aka a drug from the drug family known as benzodiazepene.  I worked in a drug clinic once upon a time, and we had patients who used this crap recreationally.  Seriously?!  This is so not fun.  Okay, maybe it is amusing to people watching me as I suddenly go off into la la land, but it’s just not a fun feeling to have.  At.  All.

An odd fact?  I was playing about ten games of scrabble on my iPhone while this went on.  I was still winning.  🙂

So, Versed is used to treat seizures, insomnia, to induce sedation and AMNESIA.  Ummmm, say what????  Amnesia.  Suddenly, so much makes sense.  Like the fact that I was heckling my surgeon DURING the surgery.  All the nurses said in recovery was that, apparently, I was asking him to let me watch the surgery.  You know, the surgery he was performing on my body at the time?  Yeah, that one.  Well, for those of you who know me in real life, you know how bizarre that is, right?  I mean, I can’t even watch the Discovery Health channel because the things they show are too graphic for me.  Now, all of a sudden I’m not squeamish?!  Makes no sense.

The follow up visit cleared that confusion right up.  Lara asked him about my apparent demands to watch the surgery, and he went blank for a minute.  Then, he laughed.  No, I didn’t ask to watch the surgery.  Oh, no.  Not me.  Nope.  I COMPLAINED to the man making incisions in my body that I didn’t like the drape over my face.  In fact, I insisted that he remove it.  He said no.  I then asked politely, and he said “no” again.  At that point, I opted out and began to snore.

I am just so cool when I’m drugged.

I keep laughing over this, because it sounds like a story of someone else’s life event.  Since I can’t really remember a darn thing perhaps it was someone else. Ha!

So, I may not remember this blog by dawn.  Or, I may remember it quite well.  I’m allowed to have my milk thistle and supplements again now, so the cleansing continues.

Blessings to you all, and sweet dreams!  xoxo
