Goodreads and Author Promotion

Okay. We are in a new year and I am officially in high gear. I’ve spent a great deal of time reading and researching, with many special thanks to Rachel Thompson and Rebecca T. Dickson for the rich content they share, and the motivational ass-kicking they can deliver! 🙂

So. I’m an Indie author. I’ve been self-publishing for one year, and starting to get the hang of the marketing and promotion side of things. It’s really funny to find how terrific I am at marketing OTHER people. I’ve been a bit blocked on doing that for myself.

No more!

Today, I finally designed my ad campaign for Goodreads. I figured I should start it out for my fiction. Since “Blessings” is the first in the Blood Curse series, I’m beginning there. Tomorrow I will find out if the ad has been approved.

As far as the experience went, Goodreads promotions are very user-friendly. I especially like the fact that the cost to run the advertisement is determined on a per-click basis. In other words, the money you pay (up front) is held and reduced based upon how many Goodreads members click on the ad. Also, the targeting for the ad was specific and easy. And, yes, I did select Young Adult as one of my categories.

Here on the blog, I will update you on the results of that ad campaign.

More excitement here! 😉 On a roll.

Also, for great information, if you are not already following @RachelintheOC and @rebeccatdickson on Twitter, go, follow them now!

Blessings to you all…

  1. Good luck! I’ve found that Goodreads campaigns are usually “long-haul” events. I’ve had an ad running for 6 or 7 months now that I funded for $30. I think I still have $10 left.
