Friday Philosophy…History

Traditional history: A story written by the winner of the war. HIS story.

Revisionist history: a story told by the loser of the war. HER story. The stories of thousands of voices we have delegitimized over hundreds of years. History that has been adapted to account for scientific facts more recently discovered.

History is a living, breathing story that has room for growth and change. So, for today’s Friday Philosophy, some quotes on history.

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” ~ George Santayana

“Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe.” ~ H.G. Wells

“If you don’t know history, then you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree.” ~ Michael Crichton

“Every moment happens twice: inside and outside, and they are two different histories.” ~ Zadie Smith

“History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” ~ Maya Angelou

Who will tell your story, if not you? Who else can come close to getting it right?

Blessings to you all, never give up!
