Redwood

Silent giants

Watch with their impassive faces

As we scurry about

Important in our busywork

Forgetting to turn our faces

Up to the sky

They shelter us

From our fiery star

And guard the rivers

That wind in a journey

Beneath their arms

They stand in a dance

A forest of ancestors

Here for a moment only

With the music of thousands

Flowing through their lifeblood

They implore us

To stop

To listen

To tear our eyes from distraction

And see true

Gazing through a canopy

Returning to the trees

Finding a church

Worshipping

With a choir of birdsong

And water rolling

Beyond the immovable ~ Caroline A. Slee
